Building a National Care Service: From Public Expectations to Practical Reform: An Adult Social Care APPG Inquiry responding to the Big Conversation on Care.
We are delighted to launch the APPG on Adult Social Care’s inquiry, Building a National Care Service: From Public Expectations to Practical Reform, at a significant moment for social care. In his speech to Labour Party Conference this week, the Prime Minister announced that Labour will establish a National Care Service in the next Parliament. It would provide free personal care for older people and be founded on NHS principles, where “everyone contributes and everyone is covered”. Baroness Casey has been asked to set out the best way of delivering reform, including how to pay for it, and to report by April 2027.
Our inquiry is focused on delivery. We want to understand what it would take to build a national care service in practice, and what needs to happen first to make it work for people who draw on care and support, unpaid carers and the workforce.
We want everyone who wants to take part to be able to, including care providers, charities, the workforce, and people with lived experience of drawing on care and support. We want to make it as easy as possible to respond, so you can take part in whichever way suits you best. Including:
